I've been on the tools since I was 19 — going on 17 years in the trade now. I don't call what I do a job. I wake up loving it — the planning, the problem-solving, and the moment a client walks into their finished bathroom or kitchen and just lights up. That's the bit that keeps me going.
My roots are on Madeira Island in Portugal, but home is here in the Illawarra. I run more than one local business in Wollongong, so I know what it means when locals trust you with their home and their money — and I don't take that lightly.
I've always gone for the jobs other people put in the too-hard basket. A frame built under a house so the whole thing could be lifted and moved 30 metres down the block. A custom bridge for a client who cared about every detail. A container forklift, bent and twisted, back at work after one Saturday call-out.
Off the tools, you'll usually find me at CrossFit. It's the same mindset as the job: turn up, put the work in, don't cut corners.
Big job or small, the standard doesn't change. I'd rather do it once and do it properly than rush it and be back next week fixing it.
